EKOO-Biobased Circular scheme opens on April 1

Entrepreneurs can apply for subsidies from 1 April to 13 May to conduct applied research and determine the industrial and economic feasibility of innovative production and recycling processes for biopolyesters and applications. An information meeting will be held on 19 February organized for the scheme.

These projects must be aimed at solving technical innovation issues from the market and industry, with the aim of accelerating the adoption of these solutions.

The subsidy is made available via the EKOO scheme from the National Growth Fund Program BioBased Circular, with a maximum subsidy amount of € 500,000 per project. There is a budget of € 2.5 million. The scheme focuses on the following main themes of BioBased Circular:

  • Developing one or more new bio-based feedstock routes based on carbohydrate-containing streams for conversion into building blocks for polymers;
  • Development of process steps to produce new building blocks and polyesters on an industrial scale;
  • Development and/or validation on multi-kg scale in industrial production processes of novel biobased polyesters and their application;
  • Developing or validating biobased polyester materials or applications thereof
  • Application development taking into account circular by design principles that include recycling and/or biodegradability.
